Artist's Comments

Captain Jack Sparrow, from the Disney movie "Pirates of the Caribbean." This isn't a copy of a screen capture or a promo pic. I've used five photographic references for the sake of accuracy: one for the sky, one for the details of the wheel and ship, and three for details of Jack's face and costume. Done in Corel Painter 8 with Wacom tablet.

Very nice, you captured the face well. I didnt realise you could get such good results from computer colouring! I'll really have to try and learn how to do that at some point!

I was actually checking out the "In progress" section of your web page periodically and saw how this came along. The more I see, the more I'm awed by your ability to capture such realism in your medium of choice.

Thank you. :) I work with Painter, and I try to approach a digital piece the same way I used to approach an oil painting - sketch, color areas roughly, blend, add details, etc, and all on one layer. No filters, no special effects. :)
